Documents Required for GST Registration: Business-Type Wise List
Proprietorship, partnership, LLP, company or e-commerce seller — the exact GST document set for each, plus the address-proof mistakes that cause REG-03 notices.
Key points
- Aadhaar authentication of the authorised signatory avoids physical premises verification in most cases.
- Rent agreement without an owner's NOC is the single biggest cause of REG-03 clarification notices.
- E-commerce sellers must register regardless of turnover if they supply through a marketplace operator.
GST registration is filed in Form REG-01 and, when documents are clean and Aadhaar authentication succeeds, the GSTIN is usually issued within 7 working days. Where authentication fails, the officer may order physical verification, which adds 15–21 days.
The document set changes with constitution of business. A proprietor uploads personal KYC; a company must upload the Certificate of Incorporation, board resolution and the director's KYC as authorised signatory.
Photographs of the principal place of business must clearly show the signboard with the trade name and the entrance. Interior-only photos are frequently rejected.
If you operate from a co-working space, get a signed NOC plus the seat/desk allocation letter on the operator's letterhead — a plain invoice is not accepted as address proof.
