The FSSAI category is decided by turnover: Basic (up to ₹12 lakh), State (₹12 lakh–₹20 Cr) and Central (above ₹20 Cr or import/export). Home bakers usually start with Basic.

Since 2023, all food business operators must display their 14-digit FSSAI number on packaging, invoices and delivery packaging — non-compliance attracts penalties under the FSS Act.

The most common FoSCoS rejections are wrong food-category selection, missing layout plans for State/Central and unsigned Form-IX declarations. Every rejection costs you 15+ days.

Renew your FSSAI license at least 30 days before expiry — late renewal attracts a ₹100/day late fee, and licenses lapsed beyond 90 days require a fresh application.
