Overview
The Designs Act, 2000 protects the visual appearance of an article — shape, configuration, pattern or ornamentation applied by an industrial process — for ten years, extendable by five. Protection is available only for designs that are new and not previously published anywhere in the world, so filing before any launch or exhibition is critical.
